Fire in Johannesburg Kills 47, Dozens Injured

A tragic incident unfolded in Johannesburg as a devastating fire engulfed a residential block, resulting in the loss of at least 47 lives, as reported by the BBC. Over 40 individuals have also sustained injuries in the incident.

Authorities in Johannesburg are currently working diligently to determine the cause of this blaze, which occurred in a five-story building located in the city center.

Robert Mulaudzi, a spokesperson for the emergency services, shared, “Firefighters were able to rescue some of the occupants.” However, he also stated that the fire had caused extensive damage to the building, and efforts to locate potential additional victims are ongoing.

A video, shared on the X platform (formerly known as Twitter) by Mr. Mulaudzi, depicts the grim scene with fire trucks and ambulances positioned outside the building, its windows now charred and shattered.
