Uttar Pradesh Sees Surge in Christianity Conversion Arrests: 90 Detained Over Past Nine Months

Seven individuals have been apprehended by the police in Rae Bareli, Uttar Pradesh, on charges of enticing people to convert to Christianity through promises of “quality meals and English education.” The arrests occurred on Sunday evening and the individuals detained have been identified as Ram Ratan Shankar, Laxmi Shankar, Rajendra Sewak, Pawan Kishan, Rahul Prasad, Virendra Lal, and Akhilesh Kumar.

Shiv Shankar Sing, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Lalganj, reported that a complaint had been made to UP112 by Pitambar Kumar from Bindaganj. Kumar alleged that Ram Ratan Shankar had organized a prayer gathering at his residence on Sunday and was enticing local residents to embrace Christianity by offering them appealing incentives such as quality meals and English education.

“A police team promptly responded by visiting Ram Ratan’s residence, where they discovered a prayer gathering with over a dozen villagers in attendance. These villagers were subjected to religious sermons, provided with informational booklets and pamphlets, and encouraged to consider conversion,” stated the police.

This incident marks the latest in a series of similar cases over the past nine months, resulting in the arrest of approximately 90 individuals in Uttar Pradesh who are accused of attempting to convert villagers to Christianity.
